Harsh cold against naked flesh

Winter swimming is popular in all cold-winter countries and is practically a national sport in Finland because it is usually preceded by a visit to a nearby sauna. Harsh cold against naked flesh is a fantastic combination that leaves you refreshed for the rest of the day. At ten degrees below zero and 30 centimetres, the conditions are perfect. Experienced winter swimmers enjoy swimming around for awhile while beginners are satisfied with a quick dip. Some claim with absolutely certainty that winter swimming increases resistance to colds and other winter illnesses.

Rauhaniemi Beach and Public Saunas in Tammerfors is highly recommended for anyone curious about this popular swimming culture.

A good tip is not to leave the sauna too quickly as the temperature difference puts a lot of strain on the heart. We also advise against diving since wet hair increases the amount of heat you lose. Slippers, gloves and a hat are smart accessories for winter swimming.
